“Real Madrid report that our player Toni Kroos is currently in isolation after coming into contact with a person who tested positive for COVID-19, although all tests carried out on the player have come back negative,” said a statement from the club.
Even though Kroos’ latest test is negative, according to La Liga protocol he will not be able to make it to Bilbao.
Kroos will only be able to join the squad once he has one more negative test in the next few days.
Kroos has been a key player for Zinedine Zidane, scoring three goals and scoring nine more in 42 appearances across all competitions this season.
Zidane gave Kroos a rest in Madrid’s 4-1 league win in Granada on Thursday ahead of this weekend’s decisive game in Bilbao.
Madrid are second in La Liga, two points behind La Liga leaders Atletico Madrid with two games remaining.
Atletico hosts Osasuna on Sunday.
Madrid are also without Sergio Ramos, Dani Carvajal, Raphael Varane, Ferland Mendy and Lucas Vazquez, as all are injured.
