Potential for severe storms Wednesday for Sioux Falls
Sioux Falls is in the area of potentially severe thunderstorms for Wednesday, according to Dakota News Now. Most of the threat zone is northeast of us, but includes Sioux Falls.
Dakota News Now Meteorologist Austin Haskins says Wednesday afternoon’s forecast is tricky and depends on what happens in the morning. “If we see severe thunderstorms in the afternoon, the main dangers are destructive winds that can exceed 60 to 80 mph, large hail that can reach the size of a golf ball, and isolated tornadoes.”
AccuWeather meteorologist Matt Benz seems to agree, adding that straight-line winds of up to 80 mph are also possible.
“Right now there is a level two in five risk from Mitchell, Yankton, Watertown and points east with a level three in five risk to Minneapolis and Albert Lea.” ~ Dakota News Now, meteorologist Austin Haskins
One thing is certain: a large part of the high plains is in a situation of severe drought and this system could provide the necessary humidity.
