! Murcia today – Flights from Corvera Airport to Bilbao and Santander to start in July
Activity is gradually returning to Murcia airport with more domestic services offered than in previous years
The level of activity of the International Airport of the Region of Murcia in Corvera is gradually starting to recover after coming to a virtual standstill in the first four months of 2021 and the whole of 2020, and it is now confirmed that at the beginning of July it will be possible to fly directly from Costa Cálida airport to Bilbao and Santander on the Atlantic coast of northern Spain.
This year the tourism sector expects the summer campaign to be saved by domestic tourism and the focus is on attracting Spanish residents from other parts of the country and persuading them to visit Murcia.
Traditionally, San Javier Airport, which later closed to make way for Corvera Airport, has traditionally relied heavily on the UK market and in the past up to 86% of flights to airports were to and from the UK.
The Covid lockdown and the UK government’s continued reluctance to ease international restrictions have obviously had an impact on traffic through the airport since the start of the pandemic, and this year the regional tourism board decided to focus its efforts in the internal market; second residents market of little interest until restrictions are relaxed.
The airline company Volotea offers for sale 6,000 seats on the services of each of the two airports integrated in the arrival and departure panels of Corvera, making the company the most important operator of domestic flights at the airport. Besides Bilbao and Santander, there are also regular flights between Murcia and Gran Canaria, Palma de Mallorca, Barcelona, Oviedo (Asturias) and Menorca.
Newly confirmed flights between Corvera and Santander and Bilbao will operate from July to September – if the pandemic permits, of course – after the Menorca service begins on the 23rd.rd June, and the Asturias service is already operational.
Domestic flights from Volotea to Corvera are available on the following weekdays:
Barcelona – Fridays and Sundays
Santander – Tuesdays and Saturdays
Bilbao – Thursdays and Sundays
Minorca – Tuesdays and Fridays (from 23rd June)
Asturias – Wednesdays and Saturdays
At the same time, of course, international travel is also gradually restarting, and during the summer Corvera will be connected to the airports of Charleroi, Antwerp and Bruges in Belgium and various places in the UK: Ryanair has regular flights. to and from Birmingham, Bournemouth, Glasgow and Manchester while Easyjet will carry passengers to and from London and Bristol once their services resume in July.
