Muniain helps Bilbao save 2-2 home draw with Granada
Iker Muniain netted a goal and helped force the equalizer that saw Athletic Bilbao draw 2-2 at home against Granada in the Spanish league on Friday.
The attacking midfielder passed to striker Raúl García to score the opening goal in the 10th minute.
Granada rallied to take the lead after Darwin Machís made it 1-1 in the 25th with a shot that went off the post. Jorge Molina then swept a poorly defended shot from Machís that hit two defenders before reaching the striker to send the visitors to half-time with the lead.
After nearly equalizing with a long shot that hit the crossbar, García’s header pass to Iñaki Williams kicked off a team movement that ended in a home goal in the 76th minute by the keeper. by Granada Luís Maximiano. Williams’ shot was saved by defender Luis Abram, but Muniain finished with a ball that ricocheted off the post and goalkeeper Maximiano before entering.
Bilbao remained winless in five rounds but remained in eighth place. It will be without defender Iñigo Martínez in the next round against Real Madrid after receiving a direct red card in the dying moments of the game for fouling a Granada player with only the keeper to beat.
Granada manager Robert Moreno watched the game from a penalty area at San Mamés Stadium as he served the first of a two-game suspension after being sent off in a loss to Madrid in the last round for having protested. His team moved to 14th place, three points from the relegation zone.
