Money Heist 5 cast talks about ‘war’ in season finale: ‘We can feel India’s love here’
Money Heist Season 5 premiered today on Netflix. The worldwide success has brought fans back inside the Bank of Spain where the gang faces their greatest enemy to date – the military. The trailer and teasers for the final season captured the interest of audiences, as did the various stills and BTS. Even its cast agreed that its final season followed the genre of war, loaded with intense action and shootouts.
In an exclusive conversation with indianexpress.com from Spain, actors Itziar Ituño (Lisbon), Darko Peric (Helsinki) and Rodrigo de la Serna (Palermo) spoke candidly about the fate of their characters and what awaits The Professor and his team in Money theft.
“Things have changed a lot since the first season, but as you have seen in the promos this season is in the midst of war. All the characters are bursting with adrenaline. It has always been like this. It’s a heist, but I think this time it’s more than that, ”Darko said.
Darko’s Helsinki has remained a core member of the gang since the first season. Difficult to resolve, he has lost his brother Oslo and his closest friend Nairobi in recent seasons. According to Darko, “all the characters who come close to Helsinki are in pain. So I think he’s got a lot of bad luck, but it’s going to happen. He was pointing at Helsinki, expressing all his anger and pain through the guns.
While Helsinki had a character graphic from the first season, Rodrigo as Palermo joined The Heist in its third season. Palermo, however, has not been the most reliable thief so far. He became a thug, helped Gandia free himself, and also became the reason for Nairobi’s death.
Does Rodrigo see his character as an anti-hero who could redeem himself in future episodes? “I think he would. He has been hit very hard by the loss of Berlin in recent seasons and the death of Nairobi has touched him deeply as well. So I think he’s going to seek that redemption. I think he will find things in his colleague and friend Helsinki.
The current heist of the Bank of Spain was the Berlin plan, devised by Palermo, an engineer by profession. But his impetuosity led to problems inside. Now that Itziar aka Lisbon is inside the bank, things could be rescheduled in the absence of the professor.
Lisbon is an ex-cop and can therefore understand the spirit of negotiators. It is this aspect of his work that has proved useful for the team so far. Lisbon should be at the forefront in guiding the gang through the army’s plans. Itziar agreed on how Lisbon would become more relevant. “Initially, I was not the one in charge. But now I’m in the plan. History has completely changed. It took it to a whole new level, ”she said, adding that despite the tough action scenes, she loved the challenge.
Now that the series has lowered the curtains on its story, with the second part of its finale coming out on December 3, how does the cast come to terms with the separation from the set of La Casa De Papel or Money Heist? Rodrigo, of Argentinian origin, said filming the show brought him closer to his colleagues. So he will definitely miss the cast and the crew.
“I spent two years of my life with them. We even lived the pandemic together and shared intense situations. We have become great friends. I live in a country very far from Spain and the world. So I will miss them very much, ”he said with a touched tone.
And what about Indian fandom? We asked the actors if they were aware of the popularity of crime drama in India. Itziar frankly said she was aware of all of this. ” I saw that. I receive boxes of chocolates, flowers and letters from India to the Basque Country and I know the show is a huge success in India. We can also feel all that love here. Of course I have tons of great women talking to me and sending things to me that it’s a great show.
“I really hope to come to India one day,” Darko concluded.
