Liverpool confirm friendlies between Athletic Bilbao and Osasuna – with 40,000 fans at Anfield – Liverpool FC
Liverpool have confirmed they will conclude the preseason with a double friendly against Athletic Bilbao and Osasuna at Anfield – with a 75% crowd.
With lockdown restrictions now lifted in the UK, including a limit on mass gatherings and mandatory wearing of face coverings, Liverpool have now confirmed their intention to host two friendlies at Anfield next month.
The Reds face Athletic Bilbao on Sunday August 8 at 4 p.m. before facing Osasuna on Monday August 9 at 7 p.m.
Interestingly, the club have also announced that the stadium will be at 75% of its capacity for both matches, meaning more than 40,000 fans will be allowed to attend.
Tickets for the friendlies go on sale on Wednesday, July 21, with the biggest crowd allowed at Anfield since the Champions League round of 16 loss to Atletico Madrid last March.
Over the past 16 months, Liverpool have played the majority of their games behind closed doors, despite 10,000 supporters in attendance for the final day’s victory over Crystal Palace in May.
There should be an incredible atmosphere at Anfield for both friendlies, which will serve as the final warm-up for the coming campaign.
- July 20: c. Innsbruck / Stuttgart (Saalfelden, Austria)
- July 23: c. Mainz (Grodig, Austria)
- July 29: c. Hertha Berlin (Innsbruck, Austria)

Liverpool will face Norwich at Carrow Road in their Premier League opener on August 14, just five days after the clash with Osasuna, which will be a tribute to the late Michael Robinson.
The full pre-season schedule currently sees Jurgen Klopp’s side playing against FC Wacker Innsbruck (July 20), Stuttgart (July 20), Mainz (July 23), Hertha Berlin (July 29), Athletic Bilbao (August 8) ) and Osasuna (August 9)).
It remains to be seen whether another friendly match will be organized upon return from Austria.
