Liam and Olivia were New Jersey’s most popular baby names of 2020
In 2025, there will be a whole mess of kids named Liam, Olivia, and Emma in kindergarten classes in the Egg Harbor Township and Greater Egg Harbor school systems.
The Social Security Administration has released the best baby names for 2020, and New Jersey matches the rest of the country pretty closely when it comes to popular names for the little ones.
In New Jersey, the most popular boy names in 2020 were Liam, Noah, Lucas, Joseph (yay!) And Jacob. The two most popular boy names in the United States were also Liam and Noah. Lucas was No.8 in the country, but Joseph and Jacob were not in the Top 10 in the country.
For girls, the most popular names were Olivia, Sophia, Emma, Mia and Ava. Oliva and Emma were one and two on the national roster, Sophia was # 5, Mia # 8 and Ava # 3.
By the way, 50 years ago the most popular names for boys in New Jersey were Michael, John, Robert, David and James. The most popular girl names in 1970 were Jennifer, Lisa, Kimberly, Dawn, and Christina.
So why are Liam and Olivia the most popular names in New Jersey today? I don’t know, but I can only speculate (with the tongue firmly in the cheek) that Liam is because of Liam Neeson (“ I do to have are a very particular together skills …. “
I can only speculate that Olivia is popular because of … Olivia Newton John (Let’s Get Physical … “)
