Juventus take an interest in Kepa Arrizabalaga
Juventus have reportedly expressed interest in Chelsea goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga and are ready to sign him next summer.
A recent report from Fichajes offered a detailed update on the Juventus goalkeeper conundrum. It appears that new coach Massimiliano Allegri is desperate to strengthen his options between the sticks, having been dissatisfied with Wojciech Szczesny’s performance while Gianluigi Buffon left for Parma this summer.
One of the players targeted by Juventus is Kepa Arrizabalaga. The Bianconeri are aware of the uncertain future of the Chelsea keeper, who is not at all favored by Thomas Tuchel and a move away from Stamford Bridge could soon be on the horizon.
Formerly of Athletic Bilbao, Kepa currently holds the record for the most expensive goalkeeper in world football, having joined Chelsea in 2018 for a fee of € 80million. Sadly, the move turned out to be a disaster for the Blues as the Spaniard fell short of his expectations, even becoming a handicap due to his error-prone nature, between the sticks.
His incompetence in goals forced Chelsea to bring in Edouard Mendy last summer. The move has worked wonderfully, with the Senegal international becoming one of the Premier League’s best goalkeepers in a year and a half.
At the same time, this has left Kepa behind in the pecking order, with very little chance of redeeming himself at Stamford Bridge, even though he has performed admirably this season. As such, a move away from West London would make sense for both parties involved, with Chelsea also keen to offload the expensive Spaniard.
Former Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri has remained keen to bring Kepa to Lazio this season. It looks like the Italian tactician is ready to offer him the opportunity to relaunch his career after three disastrous years in London.
But the recent interest from Juventus will certainly be appreciated by Chelsea, knowing that they are in the market for one of the old lady’s defensive gems at Matthijs de Ligt. It won’t be surprising to see if the Blues are even looking to craft a potential player plus a cash deal, in a bid to lure the Dutchman to England’s shores.
Juventus and Lazio are not the only admirers of Kepa, however, with the former Athletic Bilbao star also being considered by FC Barcelona, who are set to add significant competition for underperforming Mats-Andre ter Stegen. .
