Free samples will return to Costco stores soon
On our last visit to Costco, my wife asked me if I ever thought free food samples would come back. I told him I hoped so. After 14 months without sampling, this hope will soon become reality.
According to CNN, Costco is “starting a gradual return to full sampling early next month.” Hey, next month starts Tuesday!
Starting next week, around 170 Costco stores in the United States will again serve food samples, and nearly all stores are expected to distribute the freebies by early July.
In an earnings call Thursday, Costco chief financial officer Richard Galanti said there would be “increased security protocols.” Those who prepare samples will be behind the plexiglass. Samples will be distributed individually and less will be manufactured at a time. It may mean a little bit of waiting, but given that Costco halted samples due to the COVID-19 pandemic in March 2020, a little bit of waiting won’t hurt us.
CNN said food courts will also reopen at Costco locations in the United States from June. The capacity will be halved to allow social distancing.
Costco is my favorite store to spend the day. It might be a bit of a stretch, but it’s huge! If I haven’t been to Coralville in a while, I just know I’m missing out. I look forward to every time we stop. My bank account does not share the same sentiment. However, it won’t take long for these free samples to return. Maybe that will mean we won’t have to stop at a restaurant on the way home … with a few hundred dollars worth of groceries in tow. Perhaps.
