College football, tailgating and fun for the Casey stadium
The University of Albany put season tickets on sale for the Great Danes’ 2021 football season this week. Ticket package includes the 9/11 home opener against the expanding Rhode Island Rams, as well as top-ranked Villanova, Maine and New Hampshire, before the final game of the regular season against their big rival Stony Brook. Yeah, maybe I’m bleeding a little purple and gold, but that doesn’t mean I’m wrong when I say it’s the best college football you’ll see within a hundred mile radius.
The Colonial Athletic Conference has produced NFL greats like Howie Long (Villanova), Joe Flacco (Delaware), Charles Haley (James Madison), Darren Sharper (William & Mary) and dozens of others. 36 CAA players were on NFL rosters at the start of last football’s season, including former UAlbany Great Dane Jarron Williams. Many of them, including Williams, played at Tom & Mary Casey Stadium while still in college. All the more reason to support the Great Danes of Albany by buying a few season tickets.
Great Danes head coach Greg Gatusso was on The Drive with Charlie and Dan this week. He spoke about his team as the fall season approaches. Jeff Undercuffler has just managed all of FCS football in touchdowns. Karl Mofor is one of CAA’s top running backs and will show his skills to hopefully make his way onto an NFL roster and Jared Verse has just been named Defensive Rookie of the Year. The base is here for another trip to the NCAA playoffs for Gatusso and his Great Danes.
UAlbany kicks off the season Sept. 4 in Fargo against North Dakota State, oh yeah, that’s where NFL Draft No. 3 Trey Lance played. Two weeks later, the Danes travel to Syracuse to face the Orange. It’s great football and a great time to be a part of it.
The parking lot scene with tailgating, cornhole, music and entertainment developed with gambling on Western Avenue. Preferred parking lots make it easy to get in and out with your tailgate party gear. It’s really fun for the whole family.
