Borussia Dortmund set to include U23 defenders in training camp squad
Borussia Dortmund and PSV hope to strike deal with Donyell Malen in the coming days
Borussia Dortmund will fly to Switzerland on Friday for a weeklong training camp. And a number of players from the U-19 and U-23 teams are expected to be included in the squad.
Borussia Dortmund are short of available players in central defense for their training camp, with Mats Hummels and Manuel Akanji still on hiatus following their Euro 2020 appearance and Dan-Axel Zagadou and Soumaila Coulibaly both recovering from their injuries. Hummels are also struggling with a patellar tendon problem, while Nnamdi Collins injured his knee during last weekend’s friendly against VfL Bochum.
According to Ruhr Nachrichten, head coach Marco Rose is expected to include BVB II defenders Antonios Papadopoulos, Lennard Maloney and Albin Thaqi in the training camp squad. This is to ensure that Borussia Dortmund have enough defenders for training and also for the next two pre-season friendlies.
Ruhr Nachrichten adds that three players from the U-19 team will also make the trip to Bad Ragaz. Defender Farouk Cissé, midfielder Göktan Gürpüz and winger Jamie Bynoe-Gittens are all expected to be included in the training camp squad.
Borussia Dortmund are also expected to welcome again a number of players who took part in the European Championships at Bad Ragaz training camp. Ruhr Nachrichten reports that Raphael Guerreiro underwent his performance diagnostic tests this week and will be returning to training soon.
Borussia Dortmund travel to Bad Ragaz on Friday. They will play two pre-season friendlies during training camp, against Athletic Bilbao on Saturday and against FC Bologna next week.
