Bilbao welcomes the second Radisson Collection hotel in Spain
The five-star Radisson Collection Hotel, Gran Vía Bilbao is now open as one of Bilbao’s biggest attractions in the heart of the city.
Highlights of this luxury lifestyle property include Michelin-starred local chef Eneko Atxa’s world’s first NKO restaurant combining Basque and Japanese gastronomy.
A gastronomic focus
The Radisson Collection Hotel, Gran Vía Bilbao takes over the former headquarters of Banco Hispano Americano built in 1945 with 137 rooms spread over six floors, including two rooftop suites with private terraces, jacuzzis and city views.
The rooftop of the new hotel is the setting for the chef’s NKO restaurant which has been awarded five Michelin stars in his restaurant portfolio, Eneko Atxa. In a space made up of a terrace with vertical gardens, colorful parasols and a geometric black and white marble floor, dishes are served that reflect the chef’s Basque heritage and his admiration for Japanese cuisine.
This exciting restaurant is the third collaboration between the chef and Radisson Hotel Group and another partnership will soon follow in Madrid.
Upcoming facilities at this new hotel include a fitness and spa area with indoor pool and yoga studio, which is expected to open in the coming months.
The property’s Art Deco-inspired design has been brought to life by dAAr Arquitectura with interiors now combining curved lines, plush seating, and the use of many different textures and fabrics. Marble, natural stone and wood meet a color palette of earth tones complemented by gold and blue.
Developed with sustainability in mind, the hotel has received LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Platinum green building certification for 47% less energy and water consumption than comparable buildings.
In addition to achieving this status, the hotel earned LEED Innovation credit for creating a “walkable project site” by promoting walking, cycling and other non-motorized transportation in surroundings.
Commenting on the opening, Tom Flanagan Karttunen, Senior Vice President, North and West Europe Region, Radisson Hotel Group, said, “It is a great pleasure to open the second Radisson Collection hotel in Spain and to bring the brand to Bilbao. One of the most outstanding elements of this new hotel is its location in the heart of the city on one of the most important avenues, the Gran Vía.
“The hotel has an elegant design and attention to detail, with an exceptional roof terrace, one of the best in Bilbao. We are honored to partner with five-time Michelin-starred chef Eneko Atxa to deliver top-notch fine dining at our NKO restaurant.
