Barcelona offer Antoine Griezmann to Atletico Madrid and Athletic Bilbao
Barcelona reportedly intend to offload Antoine Griezmann this summer and have offered the Frenchman to Atletico Madrid and Athletic Bilbao.
La Liga giants Barcelona are planning major restructuring of their squad ahead of the coming season, which could see a number of current players sacked, according to a report from Spanish publication El Gol Digital. And one of those stars, who could be ready for a Camp Nou exit, is striker Antoine Griezmann, with the Catalans offering him to fellow La Liga rivals Atletico Madrid and Athletic Bilbao.
Griezmann signed for Barcelona from Atletico Madrid in the summer of 2019 after a long transfer saga. However, the 2018 FIFA World Cup winner was unable to reach the heights expected of him, following the change of money. While his first season was well below par, the 30-year-old has shown signs of form during the 2020/21 campaign, especially since the formation’s transition to Ronald Koeman’s 3-5-2.
However, a return of 12 goals and 7 assists in 35 La Liga appearances is still not enough for a player of his quality and ability, especially given the huge expense Barcelona have made on him. As a result, the Catalans’ hierarchy, under the leadership of new president Joan Laporta, are seriously considering cutting their losses on the French striker and have thus offered their services to two La Liga rivals at Atletico Madrid and Athletic. Atletico Madrid are no strangers to the quality and prowess of Griezmann. After all, he played some of his best football under Diego Simeone at the Wanda Metropolitano. In fact, heading towards the summer transfer window, the Rojiblancos are themselves determined to re-sign the Frenchman according to recent reports.
Thus, Barcelona offering him to Atletico will be greeted by the Colchoneros, who hopes to team up with Luis Suarez and free the duo on La Liga defenders. The report goes so far as to say that finances will also not be an issue for Atleti, therefore, hinting that such a move could very well be on the cards.
As for the other club that has been offered to Griezmann, Athletic Bilbao is a team made up entirely of players from the Basque Country. And while Griezmann may be French, he grew up in the Basque region, having worked his way up the youth ranks of Real Sociedad, Athletic’s local rivals, which means a transfer shouldn’t be a problem.

The report adds that Los Leones are looking for a brand addition to bolster their reputation, making Griezmann a viable target for Marcelino’s side. The financial aspect, however, could be a problem for Athletic, while the lack of European football would be another major obstacle.
It now remains to be seen whether Griezmann remains a Barcelona player beyond the current campaign or if he ends up securing a transfer to Atletico Madrid or Athletic Bilbao, or an entirely different club.
