Athletic Bilbao underline Basque Country obligations with 2021-2022 home shirt – SportsLogos.Net News
Spanish La Liga club Athletic Bilbao are highlighting their connection to the Basque Country with a new take on their traditional red and white stripes for their 2021-2022 home kit.
The kit, made by New Balance, was unveiled on Friday, May 28. The stripes on the front of the jersey are of equal width, but the reds are distributed diagonally between two shades of red. The angle of the division corresponds to the angle of the line found in the club crest.
The raglan sleeves are solid red in color, with a black border at the cuffs. The back of the jersey is solid red, and a graphic combining the Flag of Ikurriña and club stripes appear on the back collar. The Ikurriña is the official flag of the Autonomous Community of the Basque Country in Spain.
“It’s a reminder of the special bond we have with the Basque people,” club captain Iker Muniain said on the club website. “Every time we wear the Athletic Club colors, we know the fans are with us. This year’s jersey means a lot to us.
The shorts that go with the jersey are solid black. The socks are black with red and white stripes.
The home goalkeeper kit was also unveiled on Friday, and it establishes more ties with the Basque Country. It is “asphalt black” with gray spots, and the Athletic Bilbao crest, sponsor logo and New Balance logo are all rendered in metallic copper.
“This innovative color scheme is inspired by the region’s traditional mining industries, something that is still present in San Mames in the form of the ‘all-iron’ fan chant,” the club’s website read.
