Athletic Bilbao boss Marcelino responds to Tottenham interest
Athletic Bilbao boss Marcelino has indicated he is not interested in the vacant position at Tottenham.
RB Leipzig boss Julian Naglesmann is reportedly Daniel Levy’s No.1 target to replace Jose Mourinho in north London.
The 32-year-old is considered one of Europe’s brightest young coaches, but Spurs are set to face competition from Bayern Munich, with Hansi Flick planning to leave the German champions at the end of the season. .
Athletic report Marcelino is another strong contender for the role, with his contract at San Mames expiring in 2022.
But the 55-year-old Spaniard has indicated his preference is to stay at the Basque club.
“I have nothing to say about Tottenham, I’m happy at Athletic,” Marcelino said, Marca report.
Ryan Mason has been in charge of Tottenham until the end of the season but the search for a permanent successor to Mourinho is underway.
Former Spurs forward Jurgen Klinsmann has also been linked with the post and refused to rule out a return to the capital.
Klinsmann told ESPN FC: “ I’m telling you, anything is possible in life.
“I never thought I would coach Germany at a World Cup. I never thought I would coach the United States for six years or Bayern Munich. We will therefore see in a few months who will be the manager of Spurs!
