Athletic Bilbao and Benfica enter into strategic partnership
Athletic Bilbao and Benfica enter into a strategic partnership.
Benfica and Athletic Club have entered into a collaboration agreement for the exchange of knowledge with the aim of improving youth academy processes and grassroots performance.
The lines of collaboration between the two entities relate to the areas of methodology, recruitment, affiliated clubs and performance analysis. To this end, they plan to organize working groups to develop joint research, conferences and seminars, as well as visits between the two clubs.
A Portuguese contingent arrived in Bilbao yesterday. They visited San Mamés and the Museum, then took part in a round table moderated by Andoni Ayarza, deputy sports director of the Athletic Club. In the afternoon, they went to Lezama, where they were also received by Andoni Bombín, responsible for the methodology of the Club.
On Tuesday, they ended their visit by meeting the heads of Lezama’s analytics department before attending a first-team training.
Benfica’s visiting group consisted of Nuno Mauricio (Head of Performance Analytics), Renato Jesus (Human Resources), João Copeto (Head of Information Technology Systems), David Sousa (Sports Data Scientist) and Rui Passo (Vice President of Innovation and Technology).
Like Athletic, Benfica is supported by club members and has very competitive sporting projects, being a reference in the recruitment of talent at European level.
