Abraham sold, Ziyech stays – Chelsea fans name Thomas Tuchel’s 2021/22 squad ahead of transfers
Only a few weeks ago Chelsea won their second UEFA Champions League trophy, but now transfer and pre-season preparations are in full swing for Thomas Tuchel.
Head coach Tuchel is said to be on the lookout for three new faces, while he will also be able to judge the returning loaned players during the preseason as he is said to be open-minded about players who have not passed the last season at Stamford Bridge.
In this spirit, football.london recently asked fans what they think about who Chelsea should keep, sell or send on loan this summer, so we’ll break down the results below.
Those to keep
Unsurprisingly, after the previous season there were quite a few goalkeepers for the fans in this Chelsea squad. 95% or more of voters want to keep names like N’golo Kante, Mason Mount, Kai Havertz, Christian Pulisic, Eduoard Mendy, Thiago Silva, Ben Chilwell and Reece James.
Despite being linked with a move, Hakim Ziyech still has the confidence of Chelsea fans as 64% of voters want the winger to stay at Stamford Bridge this summer.
Callum Hudson-Odoi is another with rumors of leaving this summer, but again he retains the trust of Blues fans as 72% of voters want the winger to have a chance to prove himself to Thomas Tuchel.
Those for sale
Despite such a miraculous feat in Porto and a place in the top four, there are of course some players who Chelsea fans believe should continue this summer.
With the most voters believing it’s time to sell, Michy Batshuayi tops the list with 84%, having never really been able to carve out a spot since joining for £ 33.2million in 2016.
After apparently falling out of favor with manager Tuchel, Tammy Abraham had 58% of voters who thought it was time to take advantage of the 23-year-old academy graduate, who was also Chelsea’s top scorer this season.
And, after signing a contract extension in April, compatriot Olivier Grioud was also picked to be sold, with 56% of voters wanting to move him versus 40% wanting him to stay.
Other popular put options included left-backs Emerson and Alonso, as well as goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga after a disappointing spell at Chelsea since his record-breaking £ 72million transfer from Bilbao in 2018.
Those to lend
Despite some impressive performances with Sheffield United and also Wales at Euro 2020, Blues fans believe 20-year-old Ethan Ampadu still needs to gain more experience outside the club, with 53% of voters wanting see it again on loan.
Belgian prodigy Charly Musonda – who is still recovering from a horrific knee injury suffered in 2018 – had 51% of fans wanting him on loan to continue his recovery. Conor Gallagher and Karlo Ziger were also all approached for loan from Chelsea fans.
Midfielder sensation Tino Anjorin and George McEachran both received the highest percentage of votes to lend with 64 and 63% respectively.
The summer window is officially open and the Blues can now rely on European glory and strengthen the team to push for Premier League supremacy.
